Milwaukee, WI – September 9, 2008 – Dan Druml, Paul Davis Restoration and Remodeling of Southeast Wisconsin owner, has announced that his company recently hosted Wisconsin Governor James Doyle along with local, state and government dignitaries at a formal dedication of the Kinnickinnic River Environmental Restoration Project. The event was held at Druml’s riverfront office building, 2000 South 4th Street in Milwaukee.According to Druml, his commercial building and office headquarters is located where the Kinnickinnic River discharges into Lake Michigan via the Federal navigation harbor in Milwaukee. The restoration project area is part of the Milwaukee Estuary Area which is a 2000-foot long and 200-foot wide section of the river located between KK Avenue and Becher Street.
“We were honored to host the Governor and his committee here at Paul Davis Restoration. We recently completed redevelopment of the property and are working along with all committees to restore the river,” said Druml.
Historically, the Kinnickinnic River Environmental Restoration Project area was designed to accommodate navigation with a water depth as deep as 21 feet which was recorded between 1915 and 1936. However, due to a decline in commercial navigation traffic, routine dredging stopped for the project area in the early 1940s, but has continued for downstream from KK Avenue by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
“When dredging ceased, the sediment accumulated in the area and resulted in a very shallow condition. The accumulated sediment is contaminated as a result of urban growth and development and lack of regulations prior to the mid 1970s,” said Druml. “We are an active part of recent efforts to help the state address the sediment issue and more recently, new navigation needs,” he said. “Over the course of the project a partnership has been established among federal and local government agencies and riparian property owners adjacent to the project area which includes Paul Davis Restoration and Remodeling of Southeast Wisconsin,” said Druml.
Attendees at the river restoration announcement event included Governor Doyle, Senator Jeffrey Plale, State Representative Jon Richards, DNR Secretary Matthew Frank, City of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, 12th District Alderman James Witkowiak, State Assembly Representative Josh Zipnick, Regional Administrator for EPA Region 5 Lynn Buhl, 13th District Alderman Terry Witkowski and 16th District County Supervisor John Weishan, Jr. For more information, contact Ken Sussex at Paul Davis Restoration, 414.383.3131 or email ksussex@pdr-usa.net.
